Oh, on that point I can’t say I agree. Okay, THESE people are most likely pretentious indie jerks but certain people definitely chose to be homeless and live that lifestyle. Dumpster diving and sleeping freely on the streets is a small price to pay for an exemption of a 9-5 job, consumerism, and dependency on the government/others. But I already expect you to argue on this one also, but really- standing up for what you believe in is great but to invest all your energy in debates with people is useless. Your human like the rest of us, your opinions aren’t the godly manifested truth even though it may seem that way and you aren’t superior to anyone else. Write an angry letter to etsy or something.

ha well i totally agree with your ideas on how absurd paying unreasonable amounts of money to resemble a “romantized homeless culture”, but disregarding the article and the specific content of the actual wedding, I liked the simplicity of the message and what weddings should be. Your long rant of a commentary was crampin’ my style. PS/You can’t identify yourself so much with your opinions and get all worked up, you’re going to end up having a heart attack over your keyboard. Thats no fun.

I will never get married. But if I do ^^ thass how we’ll roll.

Did you seriously just reblog this from me and remove all the commentary explaining why it’s a terrible thing to do?

Seriously?

Seriously?

It’s not the irony paying a lot of money to look poor bit (which I’m sure these Carefree White People appreciate). It’s the romanticising of homelessness and poverty, which erases the experiences of actual homeless people who, I guarantee you, don’t think it’s quite so much fun.

These people get to go home to a warm bed and dinner on the table at the end of the day. This wedding has nothing to do with the “simplicity of… what weddings should be.” It’s about taking the ~cute aspects of “hobo” living and completely ignoring all the serious problems.

It’s fucking offensive.

PS you can’t tell me to not get worked up over something that pisses me off.

I’m not mad because you removed my comment. I wrote two lines. Like. Whatever.

I’m appalled that you took off legitimate criticism to say that it sounded like a good idea.

Just.

Why.

Also, I’m not denouncing people who actually do decide to go live on the streets. I mean, I’ve known people who think it’s a good idea, and they all happen to be assholes, but I’m sure you could find some who genuinely prefer a concrete bed to a suit and tie. I’m not even being sarcastic. The problem is that most homeless people didn’t wake up one day and say “fuck the system!” (but hey if you think it’s a “small price to pay” I invite you to spend the winter in a back alley unsure if you’ll get food tomorrow!)

And you keep replying to me so I don’t see why you’re telling me not to debate?

Dumpster diving and sleeping freely on the streets is a small price to pay for an exemption of a 9-5 job, consumerism, and dependency on the government/others.

What about assault, sexual and otherwise? Is that a “small price to pay”? What about dehumanization, when other people treat you as invisible at best and as garbage at worst? How long before the sheer isolation breaks your psyche? Being homeless isn’t simply “dumpster diving” or “sleeping freely”. It has real danger, douchebag.

standing up for what you believe in is great but to invest all your energy in debates with people is useless.

Actually, on Tumblr, where other people can read what you say, it’s not useless. It galvanizes action and changes hearts and minds.
